Feedback Report
As part of my project, I have collated five pieces of feedback from different sources in response to my project launch. I have identified three actions that I will take from this feedback to refine my services moving forward.
I collated feedback from two of my classmates who I provided session musician services to at the end of term gigs in December 23, March 24 and April 24 at Ivory Blacks and the Classic Grand, Adam Victor, guitarist and Louis Brownisky, vocalist. Further feedback was collated from Gordon Wilson a professional session drummer, my brother Mark Gormley who is also a student in year 1 of my course and finally my external music theory tutor Sam Clark.
-
Adam Victor commented on the quality of my service and said, “I think you have been the most improved musician on the course this year.” This was after our last end of term gig in April 24 at Ivory Blacks.
-
Louis Brownisky messaged me to say “your drumming has gotten better and better since I’ve met you and had the honour of playing alongside you. Big things ahead for you in the future.” This again was after our last end of term gig in April 24 at Ivory Blacks.

My external drum tutor and professional session drummer, Gordon Wilson, looked at the promotion element of my project through reviewing the videos I had posted on my YouTube account. He commented that “due to the attention span of the viewers being quite short while browsing online, I would recommend that you pay particular attention to the structure of the videos you are posting. With this in mind I think the David Garibaldi video should be redone. What’s being played is good but it’s not as impressive and engaging as it could be. I believe the main aim of these videos is to make people want to buy into what you are offering (in this case drumming services for hire) so they need to be really clear and punchy to hold the viewer’s attention.”
-
Mark Gormley, who is also a session drummer, provided feedback on the price of my services as a session drummer as per the standard Musician Union rates. During my project, my charges for a long session based on 4 hours would be £48.60 per hour covering 1 hour of rehearsal and 3 hours of recording. Mark suggested that depending on the client I should reduce this hourly rate to begin with while I am building up my reputation and become better known.
-
My external music theory tutor Sam Clark looked at my online promotion presence on Instagram. He commented as follows: “you are promoting four genres of music in your project these being pop, rock, funk, and metal. You need to show this diverse range of styles on your Instagram account. At present you have three technical exercises and one live performance. You need to reflect the different genres that you are offering to play.”
Considering these five sources of feedback, I will implement three actions derived from the feedback moving forward to refine my project. These are :-
-
I will produce punchier video content to maintain viewers’ attention on YouTube.
-
I will charge a slightly lower fee for my session drumming for recording sessions than suggested by the Musicians Union while I build my reputation.
-
I will show a diverse range of genres on my Instagram account and other online social media sites to highlight my four main genres of pop, rock, funk, and metal.
